July Poll Insights

Last month, we asked our audience Which type of nuclear reactor uses water as both a coolant and a moderator? Overall, the most voted for answer was Pressurized Water Reactor at 58 percent. Small Modular Reactor received the second most votes at 38 percent and Liquid Metal Reactor the third most votes at four percent. Finally, Gas-Cooled Reactor received the least amount of votes at zero percent.

The correct answer is Pressurized Water Reactor. More than 65 percent of the commercial reactors in the United States are pressurized-water reactors or PWRs. These reactors pump water into the reactor core under high pressure to prevent the water from boiling.
