October Poll Insights

Last month, we asked our audience which material is commonly used in solar panels to absorb sunlight? Overall, the most voted answer was Silicon at 92 percent. Tying for second place, Lead and Copper received four percent of the vote each. Finally, Aluminum received the least amount of votes at zero percent.

The correct answer is Silicon. Silicon is, by far, the most common semiconductor material used in solar cells, representing approximately 95% of the modules currently sold. It is also the second most abundant material on Earth and the most common semiconductor used in computer chips.
