Certrec’s Electronic Reading Room Meets NRC’s Acceptance Criteria for Online Reference Portals

Electronic Reading Rooms (ERR) are quick to deploy (24 hours), browser-based, secure web portals that support the NRC’sreview of major licensing actions such as NFPA805 amendments, License Renewal Applications, and COLAs.

Ft. Worth, TX (PRWEB) August 25, 2011 — Certrec, a leading regulatory licensing and compliance solutions provider for more than 20 years, announced the availability of an Electronic Reading Room solution at the recent American Nuclear Society Utility Working Conference in Hollywood, Florida.

To support the NRC’s review of major licensing actions, Certrec developed an Online Reference Portal (Electronic Reading Room) that meets the NRC’s requirement for document review.

The ERR:

  • Is password protected with passwords controlled on a need-to-know basis
  • Disables printing, saving, and downloading functions for NRC users
  • Prevents NRC staff from printing, saving, or downloading documents
  • Allows NRC users to be informed of the Conditions of Usage

“Our Online Reference Portals (ERR) have been in use by utilities and the NRC since 2009 to support a variety of projects due to their compatibility with multiple IT infrastructures,” says Ted Enos, CEO of Certrec.

Certrec’s ERRs are simple to deploy and can be made available within 24 hours. Clients can access the ERR through a straightforward web interface that supports major browsers, smart phones, and smart pads.

NRC’s access is tightly controlled to ensure their access is limited to reading and does not allow NRC users to take possession of the documents at any point.

“Using Certrec’s Electronic Reading room cut costs and improved our document review schedule with the NRC.” says William Mookhoek, South Texas Licensing Supervisor responsible for the South Texas 34 COLA Project. “The ERR was simple to deploy and met all NRC requirements for an Online Reference Portal right out of the box.”

Certrec’s ERR was designed by Licensing Professionals to provide IT security without the need to engage IT assets.

Being web-based, the ERR:

  • Eliminates the need to maintain one or more remote hard copy reference rooms
  • Reduces costs related to preparation and transmittal of hard copy or electronic information to NRC
  • Potentially reduces NRC review fees, travel costs, and review time
  • Reduces costs associated with transmittal of information to outside entities
  • Provides efficiency improvements by managing document access through a common web platform
